WORKPLACE LIGHTING

The German workplace ordinance (ArbStättV) specifies which factors the employer must take into consideration when setting up and operating workplaces with reference to safety and health protection. Persons who violate this ordinance commit a regulatory offense, and persons who intentionally endanger the lives and/or health of others as a result are liable to prosecution.

ASR A3.4 technical rules for workplace lighting and ASR A3.4/3 technical rules for safety lighting with optical safety guidance systems are available in order to make it easier for companies and the responsible authorities to implement the workplace ordinance in actual practice. In isolated cases, the values may deviate from planning standards DIN EN 12464-1 for indoor workplaces and DIN EN 12464-2 for outdoor workplaces, because these are not focused on employee safety and health protection.

Decisive quantities include illuminance, illuminance uniformity, glare restriction, contrast measurement, color rendering, flicker and shadow.
