Upon closer examination, the very simple term “exposure measurement” harbors a complicated process, because the goal of exposure measurement is to find the best possible compromise amongst the sensor’s capabilities, the light conditions and the subject’s contrast characteristics.
In order to end up with a correctly exposed image, the right combination of ISO value, shutter speed and f-stop has to be found, which also provides the desired depth of focus. In short – the right exposure value has to be determined.
